Bali Silver different than other silver beads
The Balinese have perfected silversmith to a fine art. Although some
of the Bali sterling silver beads and beading components are cast,
all those with dots and swirls are completed handmade, , and as a
result add a distinctive look to jewelry designs. Each dot and each
piece of wire is applied by hand, using natural glue. It is then
heated to solder the metal together. The finish is oxidized giving
the components a unique antiqued appearance which further adds a bit
of flavor to jewelry.
Our Bali sterling silver is at least 92.5% silver, which is the
legal requirement for "sterling silver" products. Silver is most
commonly mixed with 7.5% copper to make it more durable, because
pure silver—also known as "fine silver"—is very soft. Sterling
silver can easily tarnish when exposed to contaminants in the air,
as well as oil and salt in skin. Lightly tarnished pieces can be
cleaned with a polishing cloth or silver liquid cleaner, however in
its advanced stages, tarnish is more difficult to remove.
